Ah, Batignolles. Nestled in the 17th arrondissement, bordering the 8th and 18th arrondissements, it’s been my home for the last two years and it’s easily become my favorite place in Paris. So, imagine my delight when the announcement came that the newest restaurant of the Big Mamma Group (Ober Mamma, East Mamma) was going to be in Batignolles. They officially opened on the 1st of September and since it’s located across the street from my gym, I had gotten a sneak peek of the decor and just how much energy it brought to the area. Then, on the 8th, there was the official opening bash where I went with my friend, Meg, and got a taste of the culinary offerings. We had the Fig and Stracciatella pizza, Margherita pizza, Focaccia, Olives and all the Parmesan cheese we could fit on our plates, accompanied by delicious specialty cocktails including the signature Spritz and Gin and Tonic.
I’ve since been back a whopping three times in the remainder of the month (that’s what happens when you put delicious Italian a mere 6 minute from my apartment). I’m happy to report that it keeps getting better. The Arancini balls are a delight as is my current favorite pizza, the Pizza Middleton with fresh dollops of Mozzarella di Bufala. The crown jewel in the menu is definitely the traditionally Roman Cacio e Pepe served for two in a big wheel of Pecorino cheese (my favorite hard cheese, by the way). It’s delicious, simple, and, as far as I know, unique to Mamma Primi, whose speciality is the prima piatti, or, pastas.
I seriously can’t recommend this place enough. Stop by and, who knows, you might even see me there!
